Batesville High School

The Batesville High School varsity football team posted a 28-27 come-from-behind victory at Milan. The Bulldogs needed a late touchdown and a pair of key defensive stops to secure their second win of the season. Batesville got on the scoreboard first on a 1-yard run by Dylan Shane in the first quarter. Milan answered with a touchdown of their own but missed the extra point attempt. Batesville entered the second quarter up 7-6. Calvin Padgett added to the lead on a 3-yard run. Ronan Post converted his second extra point to put the Bulldogs out front 14-6. The Indians regrouped at halftime and scored 14 unanswered points to begin the third quarter and take a 20-14 lead. The Bulldogs did not back down. Zadiin Small broke free and scampered 64 yards for a touchdown. Post added his third PAT to give the Bulldogs the lead back. Not a team to utilize the pass much, the Indians took advantage of an opportunity to score on a 66-yard pass play to Beckett Langferman. The extra point was good, and the Indians were back on top. If that was not enough action, the Bulldogs came up with a couple big defensive stands to set up the game-winner. The final score came as Padgett scrambled around the right side and found the corner of the endzone. Defensively, a number of Bulldogs played key roles. Freshman Clayton Kaiser led the team with nine solo and six assisted tackles, including two tackles for loss. Kaden Vogelsang had two solo and eight assisted tackles. Brycin Hoegeman was second on the team with five solo tackles, while Small had four. Offensively, Small led the team in rushing with 181 yards on 11 carries. Shane was second on the team with 42 yards on 13 carries. Padgett was 10 of 14 passing for 129 yards. Jackson Elston was his top target with four catches for 107 yards.
